When should I restick my Cricut mat with adhesive spray?

There is no definitive rule as to when you should restick your Cricut mat with an adhesive spray. If you’ve noticed that your mat is dirty or seems to be losing its stickiness, you can consider a resticking method like adhesive spray.

Spray adhesives are an easy way to bring your Cricut mat back to life right at home.

Application frequency depends on how often you use your Cricut mat and how much you take care of it. If you are a frequent crafter, you may want to restick your mat every few uses to ensure it stays in good shape.

Try cleaning your Cricut mat with water or a slightly soapy water mixture first before you break out the spray adhesive. If that doesn’t seem to do the trick, an adhesive spray is a great way to help bring some of that much-needed stickiness back.

Which adhesive spray is best to use on my Cricut mat?

Most Cricut lovers use Spray n Bond Basting Adhesive for making a Cricut mat sticky again. It is a repositionable adhesive, which means it provides just the right amount of tackiness to restick your Cricut mat. You can pick it up on Amazon or at most local craft stores.

When you search for adhesive sprays on Amazon or in the craft store, you are likely to be bombarded with several different brands, all claiming to be the very best option. Look for an adhesive spray in a fine mist and a level of stickiness that isn’t overpowering.

Spray n Bond has an excellent fine mist spray that distributes evenly. It also has just the right amount of stickiness to mimic the original Cricut mat stickiness.

Other brands make similar repositionable adhesives like 3M, Loctite, Krylon, and Odif, but the Spray n Bond one is by far the most popular because of its reliability.

Can I use glue or anything else to restick my Cricut mat?

It’s not recommended to use anything other than a temporary repositionable adhesive spray when attempting to restick your Cricut mat. The main reason is different types of glue or homemade glue mixtures can be unpredictable to work with and may ruin your mat.

The last thing you want is an uneven layer of adhesive on your Cricut mat, which would render it useless. Chunks of glue or runny glue spots are a pain to try to fix once you’ve started trying to work with the glue on your mat.

Tips for resticking a Cricut mat with adhesive spray

The biggest thing to remember when using adhesive to restick your Cricut mat is to be careful. Test the stickiness of your mat before using it in your Cricut machine. If the adhesive feels uneven, thick, or too sticky, you may want to try again or consider replacing your mat.

It’s important to note that resticking your Cricut mat and using it in your machine does void the warranty on your Cricut machine. Cricut has only tested the longevity and performance of the machine with their mats as produced.

Although they cannot make claims as to the machine’s ability to work with aftermarket adhesives, this does not mean you shouldn’t try to restick your mat if you wish.

The Spray n Bond Basting Adhesive is as close to the original stickiness as you can get, so you can feel confident in using that spray adhesive to restick your mat. If you take your time with the process, you will be left with a Cricut mat that looks brand new without having to shell out the cash for a brand new mat.
